Reviewed : Super You&Me (Laidback Luke ft. Avicii)

A little over a week ago we were given the opportunity to have a listen to the compilation based on the immense You&Me parties that Laidback Luke has recently added to his long list of accomplishments.

This is how we were described the compilation :

The ‘Laidback Luke presents Super You&Me ft. Avicii’ compilation will drop on Luke’s own label Mixmash Records April 9th – a 2CD package condensing all the superhero adventures into a perfectly formed format, ready to let loose on your stereo.

Sliced in to two halves, CD1 sees Luke take to the controls slamming down every inch of Dutch might the man from Holland has become famed for; meanwhile, burgeoning Swedish sensation Avicii rounds off with an exhibition of ‘chunk’d’ up tunes on CD2.

So we were ready to dive in, and so we did… the only reason we took so long to actually get the article done, is simply due to the fact that we have been bouncing around to some of the tracks. Having a listen we heard insane remixes, filthy basslines, and what we can only describe as pure energy from our sound systems.

We wanted to review the compilation as clubbers and what we learned is that it’s so much fun to do so! We cannot wait to hear these beats in a full-pelt rave!

The two tracks that blew our team away were the Laidback Luke remixes of  Wynter Gordan’s ‘Dirty Talk’ and MSTRKRFT’s ‘Heartbreaker’. Look out for them on dancefloors near you, especially those of you hitting the undergrounds of the UK’s bassier towns. We do think it will take a while before these tracks will make it to the dance-floors of our lovely island.

Reworks of Kissy Sell Out’s ‘Garden Friends’, MSTRKRFT and John Legend’s ‘Heartbreaker’ and Tiesto’s ‘Flight 643’ are just a taste of what you can expect from Luke’s private locker, whilst the man himself also drops in his forthcoming belters, as an extra special taster of things to come. ‘Till Tonight’, featuring Jonathan Mendelsohn, is soon to be unleashed on Mixmash Records  – this exclusive glimpse of the heavyweight tune will leave you wanting to get your mitts on the full package when it drops.

And if that wasn’t enough to keep your rocket fuelled, Luke’s mashed up combination of La Roux’s ‘Bulletproof’ and his own ‘My G.O.D (Guns On Demo)’ is sure to keep the masses flexing their muscles on the dance-floor.

In a titanic tussle, the young pretender, otherwise known as Avicii, joins the fight with an exceptional exhibition of house, cut from a movement of emerging talent that the Swede finds himself a central figure of. Hardwell, Style of Eye and Arno Cost all get a look in; with Avicii also serving up a few of his own home grown sounds. Solu Music’s ‘Fade’ get’s brought up to date with a 2010 redressing, whilst Bob Sinclar’s ‘New New New’ explores Avicii’s more Afro tendencies and of course, the craftsman’s alter-moniker Tim Berg, bringing up the tail in unrelenting fashion with ‘Alcoholic.’

‘This CD is a celebration of my Super You&Me nights and the success, official birth and continuation of my label Mixmash. I feel we need to bring the fun back into the electronic nightlife! Keep an eye out on the next generation too, it’s all about the continuation of the wonderful experience of house music!’ – Laidback Luke.

For everyone yet to join the fight to beef up soundsystems across the globe, this is finally your chance, and with a blend of uncompromising house, beats and face-slapping-bass you will be left craving more!

We liked it so much, we’ve asked Luke to send us a few CDs to give away here on OnThisIsland.com to share the fun with some of you!
More info on that when we hear back from Laidback Luke’s team.
