Nobel Prize for Economics to Cypriot Professor

It is with great honour that we get to announce that a Cypriot Professor was jointly awarded for his research in the Economic science field.

Professor Christopher Pissarides, who graduated from University of Essex before completing his masters at the same institution, went on to get his PhD from the London School of Economics where he holds the Norman Sosnow Chair in Economics at the Economics Department and is Director of the Research Programme on Macroeconomics at the Centre for Economic Performance.

Professor Pissarides speaking at a press conference yesterday said: ‘I obviously feel very honoured.’ And we too are honoured that another fellow Cypriot has managed to reach this high level of recognition.

From the Official Nobel Prize Site :

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2010 was awarded jointly to Peter A. Diamond, Dale T. Mortensen and Christopher A. Pissarides “for their analysis of markets with search frictions”.

The research produced the The Diamond-Mortensen-Pissarides (DMP) model which is used extensively to analyse the complex interaction between unemployment, wage formation and job vacancies.

Congratulations Professor Pissarides, and to everyone else, keep chasing your dreams!
