Cyprus DJ S7S to endorse DJ Hero Renegade Version

DJ S7S Endorses DJ Hero Renegade EditionFor many, exactly what a DJ does up in that DJ booth at the club is a mystery. We’ve watched the videos on Youtube, some of us have even given it a go, but now you can find out with DJ Hero, the latest in the never-ending line of Hero games from Activision.

It’s one of the best games we’ve played this year and one of the best music games I’ve ever played. Hopefully you’ve saved space for one more plastic instrument in your living room, because you’re gonna’ want to have DJ Hero on hand for your next party.

We caught up with one of the Middle East’s most talented DJ’s, Cyprus’ DJ S7S where it was recently announced that he would endorse the product for Playstation 3, Wii as well as the Xbox 360 platform.

OTI : So how did this all come about?

DJ S7S :

“I love my toys! I remember trying out Guitar Hero for the first time in Tokyo; I thought it was the best thing in the world..a few months later, DJ Hero! How can you say no to that?”

OTI : We got a chance to try it out and the music is off the hook! What did you think of the soundtrack?

DJ S7S :

“Its’ nuts! You have over 100 tracks mixed and mashed-up!  50 Cent is mixed with David Bowie, Beastie Boys are mixed with Blondie, and Vanilla Ice is mixed with MC Hammer.”

OTI : Because its’ a new type of music game it means there’s a new controller you’ll have to use. DJ Hero uses the turntable controller; half of it is the record platter with three face buttons and the other half is the mixer that includes the cross fader, effects knob, euphoria button (which enables DJ Hero’s version of star power), and the native controls for whichever system you’re playing on. On a DJs perspective, how did the controls work out for you?

DJ S7S :

“The controller is surprisingly good. I didn’t expect them to get it right; but they did their homework! It’s sensitive and responsive to the movement and its’ nowhere near as bulky as the other ‘hero’ controllers. Even if you’ve never laid your hands on a turntable before, there is a tutorial step by step guide which makes everything really easy!”

OTI : … and it aint too childish?

DJ S7S :
“When you get to the harder levels, you need to move the turntable’s plate in the right direction to get the right sounds…it’s crazy some of the things they do! I can’t keep up with the super hard levels, but its good practice and its’ great fun. Who knows, if I play enough maybe one day I’ll grow up to be a DJ Hero!”

OTI : Haha maybe! So tell us a little bit about the Renegade Edition for DJ Hero?

DJ S7S :

“This is one for the Hip Hop heads! You have Jay-Z and Eminem teaming up and you get a two-disc CD set which features some previously unreleased material. There is a slick case and a limited edition turntable deck which comes in the package too which is pretty nice, so hopefully we will see more releases for DJ Hero from other artists…I’m pretty sure Diddy is going to want a piece of the pie!”

OTI : Activision came out with Rock band so that Guitar Hero wouldn’t be a one player game. Don’t you think people are going to get bored playing by themselves day in day out?

DJ S7S :

“I haven’t tried it out just yet, but I know for multiplayer you can fire up two turntables or you can add a guitar on a few select tracks so that one player can rock the turntable and the other can just rock! Anybody who is a Guitar Hero fan needs to give it a shot! It is such a simple concept, but it is addictive! It is probably the best toy out there.”

OTI : Thanks for giving us a heads up S7S. When are we next going to see you behind the decks?

DJ S7S :

“Hopefully pretty soon! I’ve been focusing on getting my performances abroad in check, but we’ll make something work! Thank you for having me, and I hope everybody enjoys the game as much as me!”

In an overcrowded genre of music games, DJ Hero resides at the very top with the best of them. The original mixes are stunning and scratching the turntable is just as fun as it seems. It’s not as full-featured as Rock Band 2 or Guitar Hero 5, but the simpler presentation really works in its favor.
DJ Hero is already the most exciting music game around and is guaranteed to get the party started.
