Entertainment & Recreation in Cyprus from Antiquity to Independence
A highly stylised and set designed exhibition in 7 galleries that presents the evolutionary history of entertainment and recreation in Cyprus from ancient times to the late 1960’s, through the main entertainment themes of music, spectacle and dance, and of how they evolved through Cyprus’ historical periods.
The exhibition includes depictions of Ancient Greek and Byzantine Symposiums, Medieval puppet shows and the Cypriot falconer hunters, Shadow theatre, bazaars and cafés of the Ottoman and early Colonial period, as well as the annual religious fairs and festivals of Cyprus, to the emergence of the cafés ‘Santan’ and the bars, nightclubs and family cabarets of the cities.
