Yes, Cyprus will be represented by a lead singer from Wales, a band lined-up with performers from all over Europe, and one or two Cypriot artists.
Best part is… according to an article at Eurovision.TV, Cyprus submitted a song to Eurovision without having anyone to produce it, or even sing it!
The two Cypriot song writers, Nasos Lambrianides and Melis Konstantinou, preferred to search the internet for talent to represent our lovely little island in the notorious pop competition. They found young talent in Newport and went on to create Jon Lilygreen & the Islanders in order to represent us.
Here is the video for the song, which has more than one slight fault with it (count the bags):
What do you think? Has the time come for us to just end Eurovision or is the ‘outsourcing’ a good thing?

wtf?!
this is absolutely ridiculous. this is where a website like this one should be used to find local talent and support the people of this island.
its a joke. if we gonna start outsourcing for international music and singing competitions we might as well start hiring for other competitions too. i cant wait to see rooney, messi, robben and co singing the cypriot national anthem for the next euro qualifiers games. lets get usain bolt while we at it to get us a few golds in the olympics.
pathetic
Mmmm, not so sure about a Welsh representation of Cyprus. Don’t get me wrong, the song is good & I like it but what happened to the days of being of your own country to represent it at Eurovision. Long gone sadly.
Agree with Peter. It seems the songwriters have gone past the notion of proper Cypriot representation because they felt they couldn’t find the people that could perform their song as good as these guys. It might work out for the songwriters (exposure, royalties, etc) but it doesn’t look good for the island’s young singers/musicians. Its as if they’re labeled as inadequate to compete in this already diluted competition.
As diluted as the competition is, its still massive exposure for those who perform…
are they really trying to tell me we have NO LOCAL TALENT?
I THINK NOT! And I will continue using OnThisIsland to expose as much of it as I can!
aaa wats wrong with the bags ?
its a good song, very talented young man ! wihs him all the best ! i think is one of the best eurovision representatives that cyprus has presented in agess..
Come on guys, the competition was there, ope to everyone.. if cyprus has any talent taht wanted to represent his/her island in the big event he/sh was free to try to compete..
Hovic who was in xfactor and one of the island’s talents (as he was called by the xfactor judges) went to the competition, sang and lost..
ok its a bit odd for a welsh to sing for cyprus but he wont the competition so get over it !!
Eurovision IS NOT THE SAME NO MORE
I MEAN MOST SONG THIS YEAR ARE N ENGLISH.
