Movie Releases for January 2009!

Well firstly, Happy New Year! Now… what’s going on in the cinema this month on our lovely island?

twilightOn Friday the 9th we have two releases. The first being a romantic drama with a thrilling twist, called ‘Twilight‘ in which ‘a teenage girl risks everything when she falls in love with a vampire ‘. Directed by  Catherine Hardwicke and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Billy Burk. The second release is the Greek film, directed by Argyris Papadimitropoulos, and called ‘Bank Bang‘. The tale is about two brothers who get into a bit of trouble with the Greek Mafia, and their mission to try get out.

passengerThe following week, the 16th of January, sees the release of  ‘Passengers‘, a thriller about a councelor who works with the 5 survivors of a puzzling plane crash, with twists around her unproffesional blossoming relationship with one of the most secretive of the survivors and her strive to unlock the truth behind the accident.

Another dark film is to be released on the second last Friday of January, the 23rd. It is a film directed by Patrick Tatopoulos, and deals with the undying feud between the race of aristocratic vampires, the Death Dealers, and their one-time slaves, the Lycans. underworldIt is named “Underworld: The Rise of the Lycans“. The dramatic mystery film starring Angelina Jolie, called Changeling also premiers on the 23rd. This is the story about a mother who’s prayers for her son to be returned to her from being kidnapped, quickly realises that the boy returned is not her son… Sounds very interesting! A family film called Beverly Hills Chihuahua is also to be released, and with a slogan stating “50% Warrior. 50% Lover. 100% Chihuahua” it should be a fun film for the whole family.

On the 30th of January the mysterious romance film starring Brad Pitt is released island-wide. The movie opens with the line stating that the main character was “born under unusual circumstances”, viewers are quickly drawn into The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, in which the protagonist cannot fight time, but ages backwards.
