Cypriot Artists : Conor McLean

Conor McLeanConor McLean was born in Nicosia on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. At age 11 he was performing as lead singer and rhythm guitar with a heavy metal band and played at various venues in Nicosia.

At age 12 he started writing his own songs some of which were included in the repertoire while playing with different bands across the island.

By the time he was 15 his taste in music has broadened which led to ‘ACOUSTICA’ an acoustic solo project accompanied by occasional percussion.

Health problems in the years 2007-2008 prevented Conor from performing his planned debut solo concert as a Singer/Song-Writer. Despite the setback he remained determined and in the summer of 2008 his long awaited solo debut finally took place with a 3 hour set at Double 6 Coffee Bar in Nicosia.

Under the name of ACOUSTICA, Conor has held several LIVE Concerts at various venues across the island often accompanied by percussion provided by Jamie Stallwood.

Besides performing his own compositions Conor’s aim with ACOUSTICA is to add his own cover interpretations to a diverse genre of music. These include Soft Rock, Alternative, Reggae, Funk, R ’n B, and ‘Old School’ Classics.

He has developed a loyal group of followers whom he tries to please with a variety of songs and friendly interaction. Conor strives to take his music to a higher level. He own compositions are strongly influenced by his own ‘real life’ experiences and also those of others. For the past three years he has worked on his repertoire which now includes 10 of his own original compositions and more than 80 cover versions.

He takes inspiration from a wide range of artists including, Oasis, Daughtry, Staind, Kansas, Seether, Snow Patrol, Edie Brickell, Dry Kill Logic, Coldplay, Lost Prophets, Tracy Chapman, The Fray, Pearl Jam, Damien Rice, Stone Sour, Alice In Chains, Alter Bridge, Jimmy Eat World, The Calling, Jeff Buckley, Radiohead, Rise Against, Lifehouse, The Beatles, Shinedown, The Used, Stereophonics, Nickelback, The Pixies, Placebo, Goo Goo Dolls, One Republic, Gary, Jules, Dido, and Puddle of Mudd.

Conor continues to perform solo and is planning several concerts around the island in 2009-2010. He has recorded his first demo CD comprising 3 original (sample) compositions and plans to make his first professional CD in 2010. His first Video Clip is scheduled to be produced August 2009 and should be available to view by September 2009.
