C.T.O’s View on Cyprus Tourism

cytourismTHIS IS WHAT THE C.T.O SAY ON CYPRUS TOURISM :

(1) MAJOR DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CYPRUS TOURIST MARKET IN 2007

According to the results of the Passenger Survey conducted by the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus upon the arrival of passengers in Cyprus, tourist arrivals in 2007 recorded a slight increase of 0,6% as against 2006 (2.416.081 in 2007, 2.400.924 in 2006). The year started off poorly, with the first five months displaying decrease rates which varied from 2,6% in March to 8,3% in April. However, from June onwards there had been a reversal of fortunes, as the peak demand months of July, August and September all displayed healthy increase rates. The strong performance of these months led to an eventual slight increase of arrivals for the whole year, despite the small decrease that was observed in October and November (in December there was again an increase

Where do they get their figures from… I can only wonder.

(2) SEASONAL PATTERN OF TOURISM

The distribution of tourist arrivals over the four quarters of 2007 was as follows: January-March 9,1% (the respective percentage for 2006 was 9,5%), April-June 30,8% (32,1% in 2006), July-September 41,7% (39,7% in 2006) and October-December 18,4% (18,7% in 2006).

Where are the figures for 2008-09?!

(3) INCOME FROM TOURISM

Gross receipts from tourism in 2007 were estimated at CYP1.099 million, an increase of 6,1% over 2006 receipts (CYP1.037 million) in nominal terms. According to preliminary data, revenue from tourism is estimated to have accounted for 12,1% of the country´ s Gross Domestic Product for 2007, down from 12,4% in 2006.

Yer right what ever!

All this seems to be alot of b*llsh*t!
As I said before, there are no figures for the years 2008-09.
The last press releases on their web site was on the 15/01/2009!

Tourist arrivals statistics are derived from the Passenger Survey, carried out by the Statistical Service of Cyprus as a border sample survey at all points of entry (two international airports and two ports).

Data for excursionists and cruise passengers are based on monthly statements prepared by the Aliens and Migration Service of the Ministry of Interior.

This is in response to the article entitled : Limassol Council says NO to Tourism and is the opinion of one user, not the site, its employees, owners or affiliates.
